Introducing: The Ecosystem

  • Lake Verret (alongside Grassy Lake, which is housed within the same ecoregion) is a type of freshwater wetlands--specifically a swamp--located in Louisiana.
  • It is home to such threatened and endangered species as the bald eagle, Louisiana black bear, and American alligator.
  • Like other wetlands, it is a perfect stopping place for migratory birds, in particular, en route to their destination, making the preservation of swamps such as these all the more crucial.
  • It is located within the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge.
